China’s cartoon industry doubles output in 2006.

China’s 5,473 animation studios produced more than 81,000 minutes of animation in 2006, double that of the year before, according to Zhao Shi, deputy director of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) as reported by the Xinhua News Agency.

To increase the output of domestic cartoons, 15 animation bases have been established, as well as animation departments in 447 universities, and professional training for cartoonists in 1,230 universities. By the end of 2005, 466,000 students were enrolled in animation classes.
