Title: Good Party
Notes:
"The venue is in desperate need of modernisation, and the location could certainly be improved. It's also the dead of night, and the weather is simply dreadful. It MUST be a good party..."

Title: Good Party - update
Notes:
Hopefully I'll have some more time before the challenge ends to tighten up the painting a bit. We'll see...

Title: Good party
Notes:
This is as close to 'line' art as I'm going to get - blocking in form and colour.

Now to add lighting and get it all finished...

Title: Good party
Notes:
CG pre-vis. People are just placeholders, to get scale.

Title: Strange cargo - redesign V2
Notes:
This is my second 'back to the drawing board' version.
Which one do you prefer?

Title: Strange cargo - redesign V1
Notes:
I've redesigned my concept slightly, based on some of the comments I recieved from the last one.

I've done two versions - hopefully the concept is slightly better, and certainly 'strange behaviour'.

Comment welcome, especially which one you prefer...

Title: Strange Cargo - layout
Notes:
Sketched over rough 3D geometry built in Sketchup 6.

Critiques welcome.

Title: Strange cargo - development sketches / studies
Notes:
It was a bit unclear in my initial sketches what the 'Strange Cargo' actually was.
Here are some sketches which should explain it all a bit further...

Title: Strange Cargo V2
Notes:
Very rough, trying to get closer to the atmosphere I had in mind, before locking down details. Much happier with this one, though I think I prefer the composition of the first image.

The new colour palette should make it much easier to 'read' as an image.

Title: Strange Cargo - Thumbnail
Notes:
The crew of a tramp-steamer unload a very odd cargo at a run-down dock.

I want to use this challenge to make an image that really tells a story, since most of my work tends to be simply backgrounds rather than illustrations.

I realise the image is a bit difficult too 'busy' at the moment - I'm working on a version that much clearer to read. Might add some rain, too.
