Real final image ;-) |
| Notes: |
This morning, it's the day. That was planed, they both knew that, he has to leave. Perhaps he's happy to do so; he will for the first time see beyond the walls... But...
What does she think? She's happy for him? Does she say "Have fun" or "Please don't go"? Does she try to catch him at the last second?
Interpretation of this last glance is open... ;-) |

Working on the light |
| Notes: |
Working on a more contrasted picture. Much better i think...
Youglion: thanx a lot! App for application? I use Cinema4D and Photoshop.
Authentic: I finaly decided to keep the twist of the ladder like that, because I think it adds dinamics and some of "vertigo"... Thanx for ur interest! |

Assembling |
| Notes: |
Now we have to assemble the characters and the city...
Lots of work in photoshop to re-built the light and equilibrate all the the different elements.
At this stade we are now synchronized ;-)...
Thanx for your interest, comments and crits...
Sorry to have entered so late after the beginning of my work :-) |

Final position and texturing for the guy...
I decided to use more "dense" colors for the clothes, in order to separate the character from the backgound... |

| Title: |
Positioning characters |
| Notes: |
Difficult choices...
Looking for the position of the characters. The position of the guy is quite important for the "story" of the image.
On the left, he seems to abandon the girls, and happy to do so. Which is for me not very "interessant": sort of banal sex story. But the position is very dynamic and i like the impression that he climbs on the buildings.
On the right: he's more passive. What's the word for that?... He "undergoes" the situation? It's almost a rapt. We don't know if he is happy or not to go.
So I finally decided for the right position. |

Modeling the guy |
| Notes: |
Let's go for the guy. Since this image the design has changed a little: no more aviator style.
The guy suspended to the cable correspond to the first idea, but didn't match with the rest of image and was abandonned. |

riging and posing |

Next step: rigging the girl and looking for attitude... Not very easy, does she has to say "go away and never come back!", or "Don't leave, i'll die if you go!", or "I'll will wait for you all my life, my name is Penelope!" ;-)
This image is the Ambiant Occlusion pass. |

Girl modeling |
| Notes: |
The hardest thing is to find a beautiful girl who is perverse enough to accept to have a mesh painted on the face ;-)
I wanted for a while to test this way for modeling a face: i think its a good way to work fast with precision... |

For the texturing of the city, i have decided to work both in C4D and Photoshop. The base of the texture is mapped in C4D, and details, elements and other are added in photoshop...
Here the first left buildings... |

Concept Sketch |
| Date Submitted: |
Friday, 19 May 2006 |
| Title: |
Basic concept sketch |
| Notes: |
The concept of the project:
My first idea was to confront the intimity of a romantical scene ( lovers having a cup of tea) to a huge, vertical and choking city.
I say "was" because i decided few days later to change the position of the guy for two reasons: first his position, drinking at the window, was not very good for the composition of the entire image. And secundo these scene was not evoking "The journey begins...".
So the guy will now leave by air with a "cable ladder" (is it the good word?)...
For the city, i wanted something no datable, but no futuristic or high-tech.
But let's start for the begining...
Well... This first image is a very basic concept sketch just look for the best camera angle . The challenge is to have in one image a sort of romantical close-up on the foreground, and a very large and vertical vison of the city behind. |
