Milestone: Final Image
Date Submitted: Wednesday, 24 May 2006
Title: The real final image ;)
Notes:
ok, the story goes like this:

Everything is ready to go. Few minutes to make final measurements, check the coordinates, and he's off to explore the yet uncharted teritories of a new, strange world... a world where only the most basic technology is available, where there's nothing except sun, stars, moon an some landmarks to guide him, yet even despite the engine, it's the wind thet will shape the route. Only things he can depend on are his skills, and his living airship.

I wanted it too feel like an illustration to some bit over-the-top adventure-SF story.

Title: A colse-up
Notes:
I'll have to resubmit the 'Final' milestone as i forgot to type in the story background... don't want it too look like spamming ;). For now a closeup, and there's a higher res and better quality one here:

I did a little 'making of' image, showing how i used all those passes i rendered...

Title: Ok, i'm done :)
Notes:
So tht'd be it :) I decreased the 'softness' in some places, did some very minor tweaks... time to call it done.

Title: This time, almost done
Notes:
Rendering all those passes in 3,5 k took less than i expected, so i had todays evening to play with the compositing. There are still some minor details to tweak, but nothing of big importance. Which is a good thing, as i will be probably busy with other things in coming days. Hopefully i'll be able to post some passes and some info about the process of using them ;), as well as some more model shots (on the occasion of the turntable, which i still have to render ;))

Title: And the quick and dirty postpro...
Notes:
The post here is the same as on the previous update - just replaced the main layer and tweaked some colors. This is all done from one layer render - for the final i'll render myself ton of passes, mattes and stuff, and have lot of fun bringing it together.

For now - i still have to texture the ship (both pod and the jelly), and tweak the light on the guy - since i'll render him separately, that won't be a big problem. 15 days to go. Should do.

Milestone: Shading (Textured and lit)

Title: The raw render
Notes:
And that's how the raw render, straight out of c4d, looks... i usually don't like posting raw, unprocessed renders - and that's one of the reasons ;). Besides, i like the postproduction process too much :)

Title: The character
Notes:
Finally, the character... this guy will stay lowpoly, he'll be quite tiny in the end. Besides, the texture will somewhat help.

Title: Some vegetation, and little render test
Notes:
Added some vegetation, played with materials and light, and spent some time hacking at the render in photoshop. Lot's of fun, and i'm quite happy with the way it's turning out.

Milestone: Concept Sketch
Date Submitted: Saturday, 06 May 2006
Title: new direction
Notes:
I was busy again for last weeks, so not much progress... except, of course, new direction of the concept. Something was gnawing at me with the first one - either the monochrome palette, horizontal format, and, most of all, the calm, peaceful look of it all. So i did some sketching again, and what came out is in vertical format, with more dynamic (at least to me) camera angle, and some new color possibilities. It's still underwater-inspired, that won't change.

THe image is just a quick, scribbled-over render of the physalia and some new environment. I want lots of strange vegetation, and some human built structure to show the scale. Light is temporary as well.

Let's hope i'll manage to finish in time....

Title: more testing of the ground
Notes:
Just playing with the ground some more, experimenting with shaders and render passes. Time to move on to vegetation. Not yet sure how to approach it, though.
