| Title: |
Alien Landscape |
| Notes: |
Material: Watercolor
Concept:
This planet is pretty far away from any star... so not much in the way of external lighting. The lighting concept comes partially from the idea of creatures deep within the ocean, with bioluminescent parts and such. The planet itself is rather warm... perhaps the idea of some strange star in itself?
The lines in the background are like lay lines / openings into the planet. They emit gasses, heat, and electromagnetic energy. The open area where the lay lines are, would be equivalent to say the ocean.
The structures (purple rectangle like things) are more like sponges that float and support other creatures. There are different types of sponge/plateaus... which cause them to float at different levels. They interact with electromagnetic energy emitting from the lay lines... and also interact with various gasses and liquids. Depending on the location of the liquid or gasses constitutes where the sponge/plateaus will be. This has a determining factor as to what will grow on the sponges as well, considering various creatures would need different kinds of nutrients.
There are the egg pods... these are sort of like Venus flytraps... there is something that lives inside them. Each sponge would have one creature that would live between all of the egg pods on that sponge... being territorial, it would most likely kill any of it's own kind.
There are also the flower interface creatures in the upper level of the purple rectangles. They face toward stellar winds... absorbing energy from them... They are both biological and technical/mechanical. This is an intelligent species, though it has no form of communication with other beings. They developed technical/mechanical interfaces to help support their systems within a sparse environment.
There's also the octopus structure in the foreground... this too houses various life forms... This structure is a living "home" for other creatures. It has valves and vents for the intake and expulsion of gasses and liquids.
There are smaller plant like items that live around the base of the egg pods and octopus structure... these I guess would be equivalent to moss... or barnacles... or crystals... |
