Notes: Eska: thank you, I surely will check your thread after posting this.

Dreamabyss: Thank you for your comments. Here is a little tuto how I modelled this all. It is very simple really.

1. I created the surface that works as a guide to my box formation. Also did the set of different boxes that I will use for building it.

2. "orient on surface" option in use. As you can see the box follows the surface.

3. Click click click, box are starting to appear... 1 on every click. I did not try to make them side by side because I wanted to achieve kinda messy look.

4. The final box formation, used all 4 boxes to create more irregular structure.

Notes: Here is the bump I made for my ground, I tweaked it from some aerial photos.
The lower section of this image is the whole bumpmap..its hard to see anything of it, its quite huge, so I cut the section out of it that you can see the details.(upper)

Title: Milestone - last render & creating background
Notes: ok here is a little image of the process before postfx & composing.

I rendered several of my "cave-in" models from different angles and combined them to make the base material for my mountain, then I cut the shape of the mountain in Photoshop, then added a the fog/cloud layer. Used the background with my main block model thingy and rendered it ---> then I started the phase I am now.

hehe hope this tiny info helps someone :)

Title: Final Lighting Concept
Notes: Ok, another update. This is how the final lighting will be and the mood also will be quite much similar. I will add some more things for the background, into dinstance/fog. Also the sky will be more dramatic, although I want to let that VERY bright sunlight to burn those colors a bit.

Also this is a test how the scene would look if I leave the right side from the ealier image out. I think now the main idea (blocks) work better. Not too much of them now, like the1st_angle said :)

I think there are still something "alien" missing, but I hope the final images is alien enough.

Title: WiremodelCompositionTest
Notes: Managed finally do some more of my scene. I made a quick wiremodel composition test just to see how the scenery is forming. Some background elements (example the sun model) are still missing from this image, but not sure if I will use it.

Still need to think about the camera settings and image proportion, but otherwise this is quite final. Not sure if I like the right side of this composition, it may be too much, so I may leave it out.

Next I have to shape up my final materials, will send pics of those soon.

Would be nice to hear some constructive critics.

Notes: Ok, started to do some material tests and also some mood tests, I tried to make somekind of misty and eerie atmosphere, I think it could work with those odd structures. The land material above the blocks is still lowres version so it may look a bit messy.

Notes: ok here is a little hmm.. I would not call it tutorial, but some phase pics of the scenery im doing now. It is going to be huge pit that looks almost like a cave in and it kinda exposes the structures of the whole land.

1. First I did the basic landscape
2. Then I outlined an area I want for the cave in.
3. I cut the hole for the pit, using the line I drew on the surface.
4. Then I made a new surface that will work as a guide to my box formations.
5. Started to build up the "alien" structures.

Notes: This image is still only a concept "sketch" even though I used rendered image and AE to make the composition. Also used the real photo as a background to make those bursts of lava or what ever they are called.

Made it just to see how it could look like. BUT I think I still stay with the cold winter scene. *shrugs*

Notes: Decided to try winter look. Made my mountains look a bit icy. Still working with materials. Mountains may be too basic for alien scenery.

Composition and camera are not final and other elements are hidden. This is just to see if the ice thing will work.

Notes: Building up the scenario elements. Background and some other elements are still missing and the sky is just a test. I would call this "sketch rendering". All may change.

I think my final idea will be something like this. The idea itself, not this composition.

Title: Early rendering - Alien constructions
Notes: The constructions in this rendering are somekind very derelict and abandoned alien ships or buildings.

I kinda like the idea that there has been living things but now all is gone.. or is it? :)

This is very early rendering just to see it the idea of the constructions works...

I totally started thinking about something new.. I was not very sure about the first idea. I made a VERY rough little sketch of it. It wont say much, but the idea was to create somekind of abandone construction and get rid of the feeling that the scenery has living things on it.
